Will I notice new carpet seams?

Initially, yes. When carpet is brand new the latex backing is very stiff, and the tape used to seam it together has not yet been broken in. With foot traffic and the relaxation of both the backing and the tape, seams gradually become less noticeable and virtually invisible in a short period of time. Note that some carpets can tend to show seams more than others, and we would be pleased to discuss options with you.

Do my baseboards need to be removed for flooring installation?

Usually. With ceramic, hardwood, laminate and linoleum flooring, baseboards need to be removed and replaced and if the baseboards were put on after your existing carpet was installed they will need to be removed. However, if the old carpet was installed after the baseboards were put in place, then there should be sufficient room to leave them attached. While many of our customers will do this work themselves to save the labour charge, we can remove and replace baseboards if you desired. Note that you will likely will have to touch up the paint afterwards.

Will new flooring take the squeaks out of my floor?

Sometimes but not always. While we will may be able to firm up your subfloor, squeaks can often originate from from floor joist movement, which may require the services of carpenter to correct.

Can you do the rip-out and disposal of the old flooring?

Yes. If you do not have the time, means or inclination to dispose of your old flooring we can do this for you. Charges vary for each installation and we will go over this step with you before installation.

Will main doors and closet doors need to be trimmed after installation?

Sometimes. Given the multitude of flooring options and their various finished heights, doors may sometimes need to be trimmed. This is not a procedure that our installers do and should be completed by the homeowner or a carpenter.

Do appliances and toilets have to be moved?

Yes. If you would rather not attempt this yourself, our installers can do this work for a nominal fee. We do require that you disconnect and reconnect the hookups for fridges with a water supply, but we will remove and replace your fridge. Dishwashers rarely need to be moved. Please note that for legal and insurance reasons our installers cannot unhook or reconnect natural gas appliances. Please contact your local gas company to have this service completed.

Will the walls get scratched during installation?

With all renovations, especially carpet, there is the possibility that some marks may remain from installation. This is more noticeable when dark wall colours are present with little or no sheen, rather than with eggshell or off white colours. Our professional installers are careful, but you should reasonably expect a few minor touch ups after installation.

Does all my furniture have to be out for installation to take place?

Yes, our preferred practice is to remove all furnishings from the room(s) and this is particularly important for linoleum and carpet installations. With hardwood, laminate and ceramic it may be possible to work around, remove and replace furniture as the installation proceeds.

Is a humidity control mandatory with wood floors?

Yes, always! While Alberta is very dry, your new wood floor will naturally expand and contract and it is important to maintain the level of humidity specified by the flooring manufacturer. Your existing heating system – or a professional heating company – can provide the necessary equipment for correct humidity levels to be maintained which will ensure that your wood maintains its appearance and warranty.

Yes, we maintain full WCB coverage for our installation crews.
